Can people with gout eat duck meat?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been experiencing severe body pain due to gout. As a result, I’ve been especially careful with my diet. I’ve been craving duck meat and would like to know: Is it safe for people with gout to eat duck meat?
If gout is well-controlled, patients may consume duck meat in moderation, but intake should be minimized. During an acute gout attack, duck meat is not recommended, as it is relatively high in fat and contains purines, which may exacerbate gout symptoms. Gout patients should limit their consumption of meat and instead emphasize plant-based foods. They should strictly avoid high-purine foods—including organ meats and various types of meat (e.g., chicken, duck, goose, pork, beef, lamb), seafood (e.g., fish, shrimp, crab, shellfish), rich broths, and hotpot soup. Additionally, legumes, soy products, and nuts should also be consumed sparingly. Since duck meat still contains purines, intake should be limited and carefully controlled.
