Which department should I visit for prenatal checkups?
Disease description:
I’ve been pregnant for some time now. I had only one prenatal checkup at the beginning and haven’t gone for any since. Could you please tell me which department I should visit for routine prenatal care?
Pregnant women should visit the gynecology department before completing 12 weeks of gestation; at or after 12 weeks, they should register and attend appointments at the obstetrics department. In some hospitals, gynecology and obstetrics are integrated into a single department, eliminating the need for separate referrals. Prenatal examinations monitor maternal health and fetal development throughout pregnancy. Typically, the first prenatal visit occurs at 12 weeks’ gestation, followed by check-ups every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, then every 2 weeks from 28 to 36 weeks, and weekly thereafter until delivery. If any abnormalities arise, follow-up visits must be scheduled according to the physician’s recommendations. Ultimately, the frequency of prenatal visits depends on both maternal and fetal health status. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
