What Are the Common Diseases Among Welders?
Disease description:
My father usually works as a welder at construction sites. Recently, he has frequently experienced eye pain after returning home. He also gets relatively little rest. I would like to ask: What are the common occupational illnesses among welders?
Electric welding poses health hazards to the body, primarily in the form of physical and chemical injuries.
Physical injuries mainly result from the intense light and high temperatures generated during welding, which can cause skin redness, swelling, and stinging pain, as well as eye pain and tearing. Severe exposure may damage the lens and retina, leading to cataracts and retinal disorders.
Chemical injuries primarily arise from inhalation of hazardous substances released during welding—such as radioactive elements and heavy metals including manganese, aluminum, lead, and nickel. These exposures may lead to pneumoconiosis, lead poisoning, manganese poisoning, dizziness, headaches, and impaired memory.
