Recently, the soles of my feet have been very painful, and I’ve also experienced itching. What could be causing both pain and itching on the soles of my feet?

Itching and pain on the soles of the feet may be caused by tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), a fungal infection. You can apply an antipruritic topical ointment—such as miconazole nitrate cream—to the soles. Ibuprofen may also be taken orally to relieve pain. In daily life, wash your feet regularly and wear breathable footwear each day. However, these symptoms may also stem from other causes, such as tinea pedis or infections caused by dermatophytes like *Trichophyton*.
