Dr. Liu Wan
It is recommended that you schedule an appointment with the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) or Head and Neck Surgery. Cervical lymphadenopathy (enlargement of cervical lymph nodes) is relatively common and can result from numerous causes. In some patients, the lymph node enlargement is physiological (benign and non-disease-related), whereas in others it is pathological (disease-related). If the enlargement is physiological, it poses no direct threat to health; regular follow-up examinations are advised to monitor for any changes, and no specific treatment is required. If the enlargement is pathological, the underlying cause must be identified. For instance: - Some patients develop cervical lymphadenopathy secondary to acute bacterial infection and inflammation, which may be treated with antibiotics. - Others may have malignancy-related lymphadenopathy, necessitating identification of the primary tumor site. - In cases where the primary site cannot be determined, fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) or core needle biopsy may be performed to establish a definitive histopathological diagnosis, thereby guiding subsequent management. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
