After being bitten by a mosquito on the sole of the foot, calamine lotion can be applied promptly. Calamine lotion has an antipruritic (itch-relieving) effect. Itching on the sole following a mosquito bite results from the injection of mosquito saliva into the skin, triggering an allergic reaction. The affected area may develop erythema, papules, urticarial wheals, and even vesicles. When itching is severe, oral antipruritic medications—such as cetirizine, chlorpheniramine, or ebastine—may be used concurrently.
