Health Benefits and Effects of Drinking a Decoction Made from Tangerine Peel, Mulberry Leaf, and Ginger
Disease description:
I’ve been coughing frequently lately, and I’m experiencing severe chest pain. I heard that soaking dried tangerine peel (chen pi), mulberry leaf (sang ye), and ginger in hot water to make a tea may help. Could you please tell me the efficacy and therapeutic effects of this herbal infusion?
Tangerine peel (Chen Pi) and mulberry leaf (Sang Ye) can be steeped together in hot water for consumption. When used in combination, tangerine peel enhances the phlegm-resolving and cough-suppressing effects of mulberry leaf. Mulberry leaf has a bitter-sweet taste and a cold nature, and it enters the Lung and Liver meridians. It functions to disperse wind-heat, clear heat and moisten dryness in the Lung, calm the Liver and improve vision, and cool the blood to stop bleeding. It is especially suitable for cough and sore or dry throat caused by Lung-heat. Additionally, it is effective for headache, dizziness, tinnitus, and blurred vision resulting from upward disturbance of Liver-heat.
