How to Medically Treat Lumbar Disc Herniation
Disease description:
Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation
Many patients with lumbar disc herniation initially experience only occasional abdominal pain. This discomfort—often described as a dull ache or sharp, stabbing pain—typically occurs after prolonged sitting or standing. In such cases, conservative treatment is often appropriate and effective.
We recommend a comprehensive conservative approach, including medicated fumigation therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy, spinal traction, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture, and massage (tuina). After three weeks of strict bed rest, patients may begin ambulating while wearing a thoracolumbar brace for support. For the first three months, they should avoid activities involving forward flexion while lifting or holding objects.
This approach is simple and clinically effective, though adherence may be challenging. Once symptoms improve, patients should actively strengthen their lumbar and back muscles to reduce the risk of recurrence.
Wishing you good health!
