How to Differentiate Between Mosquito Bite Bumps and Allergic Reaction Bumps

Disease description:

My child has been complaining of itchy skin for the past few days, and I didn’t pay much attention—until today, when I noticed numerous red bumps and pimples all over her body. It seems like an allergic reaction, yet she hasn’t done anything unusual: she simply goes to school and returns home daily. My husband thinks she was bitten by mosquitoes, but I’m somewhat concerned. So I’d like to ask—how can one distinguish between insect bites (e.g., mosquito bites) and allergic hives?

Diagnosis can generally be made based on clinical presentation and response to treatment. Swellings caused by insect bites typically present with a sensation of swelling, whereas those resulting from allergic reactions usually manifest only as erythema (redness). Topical treatments may include calamine lotion, trimetazidine cream, or hydrocortisone butyrate cream; oral medications may include extended-release midazolam tablets, chlorhexidine tablets, or cetirizine tablets. If the patient shows no signs of improvement after a period of time, prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital are recommended.
