How to Treat Hydronephrosis and Kidney Stones
Disease description:
I was recently diagnosed with hydronephrosis caused by kidney stones. How are hydronephrosis and kidney stones treated?
The treatment of hydronephrosis and kidney stones generally includes conservative management, pharmacotherapy, and surgical intervention. If the stone diameter is less than 0.6 cm, conservative management—such as increased fluid intake and physical activity—may facilitate spontaneous stone passage. For stones larger than 0.6 cm, medications such as Amber Stone-Expelling Granules and Anisodamine Tablets may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance to aid stone expulsion. In cases of larger stones accompanied by severe hydronephrosis, medical consultation is recommended for interventions such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) or percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL).
