What Causes Pain in the Canine Tooth?
Disease description:
The other teeth don’t hurt—only those two canine teeth are painful. What should I do? What causes pain in the canine teeth?
Canine tooth pain is commonly caused by conditions such as periodontitis or pulpitis. Canine teeth—also known as cuspids—are pointed teeth; the presence of a cavity (i.e., a “black hole”) can lead to tooth pain. Initial management may involve removing the carious lesion followed by indirect pulp capping, with subsequent observation for a period. If no complications arise, further caries removal is performed, followed by restorative treatment (i.e., filling). However, if spontaneous pain occurs, pulpitis is likely present, necessitating root canal therapy.
