If one side of the parotid gland swells due to mumps but no fever is present, is it still contagious?
Disease description:
I was diagnosed with mumps, and over the past few days, I’ve developed unilateral swelling of the parotid gland. However, I don’t have a fever. If mumps presents with unilateral swelling but no fever, is it still contagious?
Unilateral parotid swelling without fever in mumps may still be contagious, and the underlying cause must be analyzed. If the condition is caused by *Staphylococcus aureus* or a viral infection, it carries a certain degree of transmissibility—primarily via respiratory droplets. Close contact with an infected individual significantly increases the risk of transmission. In cases where contagion is confirmed or suspected, appropriate isolation measures should be implemented.
