Can mumps be definitively diagnosed using B-mode ultrasound?
Disease description:
Recently, I have frequently experienced swelling and pain in my cheeks. A friend suggested that this might be mumps and advised me to undergo a B-ultrasound examination at the hospital. Can mumps be definitively diagnosed using B-ultrasound?
Mumps may occur due to invasion of the parotid gland tissue by microorganisms such as bacteria or viruses. During a B-mode ultrasound (B-ultrasound) examination, specialized equipment is used to scan the affected area to assess whether the parotid gland exhibits signs such as enlargement. While B-ultrasound can provide supportive information, it cannot definitively diagnose mumps.
To confirm a diagnosis of mumps, color Doppler ultrasound of the affected area and routine blood tests are recommended.
