Does the Japanese encephalitis virus cause hemorrhagic fever?
Disease description:
Recently, I read in the newspaper that the Japanese encephalitis virus can also cause hemorrhagic fever. I would like to know whether the Japanese encephalitis virus actually causes hemorrhagic fever.
Japanese encephalitis virus does not cause hemorrhagic fever; these two conditions result from entirely distinct viral infections. Japanese encephalitis virus is typically transmitted by mosquitoes and manifests clinically with symptoms such as seizures, high fever, and impaired consciousness. In contrast, “hemorrhagic fever” here refers specifically to hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), which is usually transmitted by rodents. Its clinical features include fever, bleeding, and shock.
