What tests are required for Ebola virus hemorrhagic fever?
Disease description:
I traveled abroad recently, and there were confirmed Ebola virus cases in the area I visited. I would like to get tested. What tests are required for Ebola virus disease (EVD)?
Ebola hemorrhagic fever is primarily diagnosed through pathogen detection in blood and urine samples; viral isolation and culture may be performed when necessary. Etiological testing serves as the definitive diagnostic criterion. The Ebola virus is an extremely rare, highly virulent pathogen causing a severe infectious disease. Ebola hemorrhagic fever—caused by this virus—is the most lethal viral hemorrhagic fever. Common symptoms include high fever, headache, sore throat, arthralgia, vomiting, and diarrhea. The disease rapidly progresses to coagulopathy, renal failure leading to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and ultimately multiorgan failure.
