My right eye has been twitching constantly for the past few days—it feels particularly unusual. I’d like to know what might be causing this persistent twitching of my right eye.

Right-eye twitching is actually caused by eyelid muscle spasm, facial muscle twitching, or intermittent, involuntary, clonic contractions of part or most of the facial muscles. It can result from various factors, including excessive fatigue, sleep deprivation, eye strain, prolonged near-work (e.g., reading, studying), or extended use of smartphones and computers—especially when adequate visual rest is neglected—leading to involuntary eyelid twitching. Compression of ocular nerves due to tumors or surrounding tissue pressure, trauma, or improper sleeping posture may also cause nerve compression around the eye, resulting in involuntary contraction of the eyelid muscles and subsequent twitching. Functional disturbances of the orbicularis oculi or levator palpebrae superioris muscles can likewise trigger eyelid twitching. Additionally, intense mental concentration or stress may also induce eyelid twitching.
