How to Test for HIV in Men
Disease description:
Recently, after having sex with my girlfriend, I’ve been experiencing persistent itching and redness/swelling in the genital area—could this be a sexually transmitted infection (STI)? How is HIV testing performed in men?
Different diagnostic criteria are typically applied at various stages of HIV/AIDS. In males, HIV/AIDS is generally diagnosed based on epidemiological history, clinical manifestations, and laboratory testing.
Acute phase diagnostic criteria: The patient has a recent epidemiological exposure history and characteristic clinical manifestations, along with a positive HIV antibody screening test or a positive supplemental (confirmatory) test.
Asymptomatic phase diagnostic criteria: Presence of an epidemiological exposure history combined with a positive HIV antibody test.
