Does itchy nipples in children indicate precocious puberty?
Disease description:
My child is only 8 years old. Recently, I noticed that her nipples appear somewhat enlarged, and she says they feel itchy. Could this be precocious puberty? Is nipple itching in children a sign of precocious puberty?
Itchiness of the nipples in children is not necessarily a sign of precocious puberty. Localized itching, hives, and other symptoms may occur due to nipple eczema or contact of the nipple area with allergenic substances. When children wear synthetic-fiber undergarments, friction between the fabric and the nipple area—especially in cases of nipple sensitivity or allergy—can lead to skin itching, redness, and other related symptoms. It is recommended that you take your child to a hospital for evaluation.
