What does “hepatitis C” mean?
Disease description:
Only then did I learn that my coworker had contracted hepatitis C. Could you please explain what “hepatitis C” means?
Hepatitis C is a viral liver disease caused by infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV). It is highly contagious; therefore, appropriate personal protective measures must be taken to prevent transmission. However, routine daily contact—such as conversing, sharing meals, or using the same toilet—does not pose a risk of HCV transmission. Currently, hepatitis C is curable. Patients must follow their physician’s guidance for proper medication use; treatment typically lasts approximately three months and results in cure for most patients.
