Disease description:

At my last class reunion, I had sexual contact with an old classmate. Over the past few days, I’ve developed small bumps on my body, and I’m worried I might have contracted HIV. Where on the body does the HIV-related rash typically appear?

HIV-related rash typically appears about one month after HIV infection, commonly on the chest or back. At this stage, immune dysfunction occurs, leading to a generalized, scattered rash often accompanied by fever. In the late (AIDS) stage, the rash becomes widespread across the body—most frequently resulting from bacterial or fungal skin infections due to severely compromised immunity, which predisposes individuals to various forms of dermatitis.
