Disease description:

I have allergic rhinitis. I’ve heard from others that washing the face with cold water can alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis. What is the proper method for washing the face with cold water to manage allergic rhinitis?

For patients with allergic rhinitis, the cold-water facial washing method involves taking a deep breath and then submerging the nose directly into cold water, allowing the cold water to fully contact the nasal mucosa and face for 60 seconds before breathing again. Repeat this process 3–4 times. If cold-water facial washing is impractical or unsuitable, patients may, under their physician’s guidance, use chlorpheniramine to alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
