Can amoxicillin be used after colon polypectomy?
Disease description:
I recently underwent colon polypectomy two days ago. May I take amoxicillin after the procedure?
Amoxicillin is an anti-inflammatory medication that helps reduce inflammation and prevent bacterial infection in patients who have recently undergone colon polypectomy; therefore, it is safe for such patients to take. For minimally invasive procedures, amoxicillin may typically be started 2–3 days postoperatively. However, it is strongly recommended that patients take this medication only under the guidance of their physician and avoid self-medicating. Postoperatively, patients should follow a light, bland diet, avoid spicy and greasy foods, maintain regular bowel movements, and prevent constipation—which could otherwise cause bleeding at the surgical site.
