Disease description:

I felt unwell and went to the hospital for a check-up. The test report indicated “positive rubella virus IgG antibody.” I’m not quite sure what this means—could you please explain what a positive rubella virus IgG antibody result signifies?

A positive rubella virus IgG antibody test indicates either a recent infection with the virus or an ongoing infection. If IgG antibodies are positive while IgM antibodies are negative, it suggests a past infection but no current active infection. If both IgG and IgM antibodies are positive, it indicates either a recent infection or the continued presence of rubella virus in the body. Rubella is a contagious disease; therefore, prompt treatment is necessary upon confirmed diagnosis.
