Are there any medications that enhance memory?
Disease description:
My child has an upcoming exam and has been under intense academic pressure lately. I’d like to give him some medication to enhance memory—do such memory-enhancing drugs exist?
In general, there are no drugs that can directly enhance memory in healthy individuals. Currently, most clinically used medications for improving memory are intended for patients with pathological memory impairment. These include primarily natural and chemically synthesized agents. Common natural agents include ginkgo biloba extract and huperzine A. Chemically synthesized drugs typically include antioxidants, donepezil, and cerebro-metabolic activators.
