Today, I noticed that my child’s stool is loose and unformed—different from normal stool. Could you please explain what might be causing this?

Dr. Xie Zixing
Loose, unformed stools may result from improper diet—for instance, overeating or consuming excessive amounts of greasy food—leading to impaired spleen and stomach function and subsequent internal generation of dampness. Additionally, chronic enteritis can produce similar symptoms; persistent inflammatory stimulation increases intestinal motility, causing stool to pass through the intestines too rapidly for adequate water absorption, thereby resulting in loose stools.
