Should nasal hair be removed in cases of rhinitis?
Disease description:
My cousin has recently developed rhinitis over the past few days and constantly complains that his nose feels extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, his nasal hairs are quite long—should nasal hairs be trimmed when suffering from rhinitis?
In general, nasal hair should not be removed, as it serves as the first line of defense for the respiratory tract and helps prevent airborne particles—such as dust, pollen, and animal dander—from entering the nasal cavity. During surgery, however, only the nasal hairs at the nostril openings need to be trimmed short. Excessively long nasal hairs may become contaminated during the procedure and can obstruct the surgeon’s field of view, potentially compromising surgical safety and efficiency.
