What causes tonsillar hypertrophy?
Disease description:
My throat appears slightly swollen—what medication can help? What causes tonsillar hypertrophy?
Tonsillar hypertrophy may result from physiological enlargement or inflammatory responses—for example, acute tonsillitis, chronic tonsillitis, or tonsillar tumors. In such cases, it is advisable to seek medical evaluation at a hospital, where diagnosis can be confirmed through tests such as a complete blood count (CBC) and laryngoscopy. Some patients may undergo conservative management, including oral medications and nebulization therapy, along with regular follow-up examinations. If conventional treatment proves ineffective, tonsillectomy is recommended.
