What causes tonsillar hypertrophy?
Disease description:
My baby caught a cold last week, with persistent runny nose. Over the past two days, he/she has developed a fever, is complaining of severe pain, crying incessantly, and refusing to eat. After undergoing medical examinations, the diagnosis was tonsillar enlargement. What causes tonsillar hypertrophy?
This condition typically results from recurrent episodes. If distinct symptoms appear and affect breathing, surgical treatment may be considered. Patients should avoid stress and “internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept referring to inflammatory or hyperactive conditions), and drink plenty of water to reduce the risk of acute tonsillitis flare-ups. A light, bland diet is recommended.
