What Are the Symptoms of Vocal Cord Damage?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been singing so much that my voice has become hoarse. My teacher advised me to stop singing for a few days to rest, fearing vocal cord damage that could affect my upcoming exams. Therefore, I’d like to learn more about the symptoms of vocal cord injury.
Symptoms of vocal cord injury include hoarseness and sore throat, accompanied by reduced vocal strength and intermittent dysphagia during eating. Vocal cord damage may also cause laryngitis, edema, and incomplete glottic closure, making speech and phonation—especially phonation—difficult for the patient. For mild injuries, voice rest and nebulized budesonide are recommended; if infection is present, antibiotics such as cephalosporins may be added. Severe injuries may require antibiotic therapy.
