Esophagitis is a common esophageal disorder; with appropriate symptomatic treatment under a physician’s guidance, it is generally not severe. During treatment, medications to suppress gastric acid secretion and promote gastrointestinal motility may be prescribed as directed by the physician. Patients with esophagitis should follow a bland, easily digestible diet, avoiding highly salty, spicy, or sweet foods that may irritate the esophagus. Meals should not be overly large, and patients should monitor the therapeutic response to medications during treatment.
