What examinations are required before kidney cancer surgery?
Disease description:
My father is scheduled to undergo surgery for kidney cancer in two days. His doctor mentioned that some tests are required prior to the procedure. Could you please tell me which tests are typically needed before kidney cancer surgery?
A relatively large number of preoperative examinations are required for renal cell carcinoma, including histopathological testing, contrast-enhanced CT, chest X-ray, and bone ECT scans. These tests help determine whether the renal tumor is benign or malignant and assess whether cancer cells have metastasized or disseminated. When necessary, additional renal function tests may also be performed to evaluate potential impairment of kidney function following surgery.
