How to Differentiate Between Pseudocondyloma and Genital Herpes
Disease description:
I was diagnosed with pseudocondyloma at the hospital. A friend previously had genital herpes simplex. Could you please explain how pseudocondyloma differs from genital herpes simplex?
Genital herpes refers to herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection of the genital area. Pseudocondyloma (also known as vestibular papillomatosis) and genital herpes can be differentiated based on disease nature, clinical manifestations, and mode of transmission. Pseudocondyloma is a benign condition, whereas genital herpes is a malignant (i.e., serious, potentially life-threatening), contagious infectious disease. Clinically, pseudocondyloma presents as small, solid, flesh-colored papillae, while genital herpes typically manifests with painful vesicles or ulcers. Pseudocondyloma is not sexually transmitted, whereas genital herpes is primarily transmitted through sexual contact.
