Why Do Children Develop Strabismus?
Disease description:
A friend’s child appears to have obvious strabismus, which significantly affects his or her appearance and causes discomfort when viewing objects. I would like to ask: What causes strabismus in children?
This condition is caused by factors such as disease and poor neuromuscular coordination. In children, binocular function is immature, resulting in inadequate control of the extraocular muscles by both eyes. Additional destabilizing factors—including ocular disease, fever, fear, or trauma—may further weaken or impair an already unstable visual system, thereby inducing strabismus. Strabismus, in turn, disrupts the normal development of binocular function, exacerbating its progression.
