Disease description:

Recently, my father was prescribed digoxin by his doctor for chronic heart failure. After taking it at home, he experienced mild nausea. Could this be digoxin toxicity? I’d like to know what other symptoms this condition may present.

Hello, the toxic dose of digitalis is very close to its therapeutic dose. The most common symptom of digitalis toxicity is gastrointestinal disturbance, including nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Some patients may also experience headache and drowsiness. The most characteristic feature is visual disturbance—objects may appear yellow or green (xanthopsia or chloropsia). Cardiac arrhythmias may also occur. Given the potential severity of this condition, prompt medical evaluation by a physician is essential. I hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
