How often should pregnant women undergo 4D ultrasound examinations?
Disease description:
My daughter-in-law has just become pregnant and went to the hospital for a 4D ultrasound. The doctor said it’s a bit too early. When is the optimal time for a pregnant woman to undergo a 4D ultrasound?
Pregnant women can undergo 4D color Doppler ultrasound between weeks 24 and 28 of gestation. During this period, the fetal anatomy is fully formed, fetal movement is relatively active, and the brain is undergoing rapid development—resulting in clear, high-quality images. This examination allows visualization of various fetal physiological activities. In some cases, the optimal timing for the scan may be determined based on fetal development and amniotic fluid volume. If the fetus is uncooperative during the first examination—making it impossible to visualize all required anatomical structures—a repeat scan may be scheduled for the following day or within one week.
