Constipation due to qi deficiency can generally be treated with medications, acupuncture, and other methods. If patients experience symptoms such as weak defecation, soreness and pain in the lower back and knees, appropriate use of traditional Chinese herbal decoctions—such as Guipi Wan—can achieve the effect of moistening the intestines and relieving constipation. Acupuncture and manual massage may also be appropriately applied to help improve constipation symptoms. In terms of diet, patients should consume more leafy vegetables and foods that nourish yang and blood, such as jujube dates and donkey-hide gelatin (Ejiao).
