What are the effects of morphine on the central nervous system?
Disease description:
Will morphine be used before and after surgery? I would like to know what effects morphine has on the central nervous system.
Analgesic and sedative effects. Morphine is primarily used for pain relief. It can significantly alleviate and eliminate pain, and is also effective in providing analgesia and sedation in acute myocardial infarction. Morphine suppresses the cough center, producing a central cough-suppressant effect. Morphine depresses the respiratory center, leading to slowed breathing. Morphine causes pupillary constriction; in cases of morphine overdose, patients typically present with pinpoint pupils.
