Ephedrine, also known as ephedra alkaloid, is a type of alkaloid. Clinically, ephedrine can be used to relieve mild asthma attacks and treat chronic hypotension caused by epidural anesthesia. Additionally, it can be used to treat nasal congestion resulting from swelling and congestion of the nasal mucosa due to various causes. However, it is contraindicated in patients with hypertension or angina pectoris.
