What symptoms are associated with twitching or jerking during sleep?
Disease description:
I've recently been experiencing involuntary twitching and jerking during sleep at night, causing severe pain that's really unbearable. I have to get up and massage my calves to relieve the discomfort. What symptoms could this nighttime twitching and jerking indicate?
Twitching or sudden jerking during sleep may be caused by factors such as calcium deficiency, cold exposure, epilepsy, or compression of local nerves and blood vessels. Twitching can also occur when one is overly stressed or fatigued, which is a physiological phenomenon resulting from increased excitability of muscles and nerves; this condition generally does not require special treatment. Applying local heat therapy or massage may help relieve the symptoms. If these measures are ineffective, prompt medical consultation is recommended.
