What causes death due to subconjunctival hemorrhage?
Disease description:
A colleague mentioned today at work that my eyes looked a bit red, and said that subconjunctival hemorrhage could potentially lead to death. Could you please explain what causes this?
Subconjunctival hemorrhage usually does not lead to death in clinical practice, as it is typically caused by rupture of blood vessels in the conjunctiva—such as from eye rubbing, trauma, eye strain, or vascular hardening. Most patients with subconjunctival hemorrhage require no treatment and the condition resolves spontaneously within several days. Applying cold compresses early on, followed by warm compresses after two days, can help promote blood absorption.
