The colonoscopy procedure is quite simple. Before the examination, patients generally need to take an appropriate amount of bowel-cleansing medication orally to completely clear fecal matter from the intestines until the stool becomes clear and water-like. The doctor inserts the colonoscope through the patient's anus and examines the rectum, descending colon, transverse colon, ascending colon, and ileocecal region during the procedure. In contrast, gastroscopy is performed by inserting the endoscope through the mouth. During gastroscopy, the doctor examines the patient's esophagus, stomach, and duodenum to determine whether any abnormalities are present in the stomach.
