Nocturia is commonly seen in elderly men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Increased nocturnal urination is an early clinical manifestation of BPH, primarily caused by elevated levels of androgens in elderly men, leading to prostate glandular hyperplasia. As the prostate enlarges due to glandular proliferation, it causes local irritation. If this irritates the bladder wall or bladder mucosa, it may result in clinical symptoms such as nocturia and urinary frequency.
