Is surgery necessary for phimosis?
Disease description:
I'm 15 years old this year. My dad told me that my foreskin is too long—does that really mean I need surgery?
Phimosis refers to a condition in which, when the penis is flaccid, the foreskin covers the glans and prevents it from being exposed. First, if the foreskin can be retracted to expose the glans and the foreskin opening is sufficiently wide, surgery is usually not necessary. However, local hygiene must be maintained by washing the space under the foreskin daily with clean water. Even with proper cleaning, if balanoposthitis repeatedly occurs, surgical intervention is required.
