What is lupus nephritis? Is it severe?
Disease description:
I've recently developed quite a few rashes on my body. Some people said it might be lupus nephritis. I'd like to ask, what exactly is lupus nephritis? Is it serious?
Lupus nephritis refers to kidney involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus, and the severity varies among patients. Patients may present with proteinuria, hematuria, and even renal failure. Those with lupus nephritis who maintain long-term normal kidney function generally have a milder form of the disease. However, some patients with lupus nephritis have more severe conditions, such as significant proteinuria, with 24-hour urinary protein excretion reaching up to 3.5 grams, typically manifesting as nephrotic syndrome.
