Which is better for paronychia, Bactroban or erythromycin?
Disease description:
My cousin has paronychia. We have Bactroban (Mupirocin) and erythromycin at home. Which one should be used for paronychia, Mupirocin or erythromycin?
Both Bactroban (mupirocin) and erythromycin ointment can be used to treat paronychia. These two ointments are both antibiotics and can help suppress symptoms of paronychia. Their use helps control the progression of the infection and promotes better recovery for patients. After diagnosis of paronychia, anti-inflammatory medications should be taken orally and applied topically under a doctor's guidance. If the condition worsens and cannot be adequately controlled with medication, surgical incision and drainage may be required. When necessary, patients should go to the hospital for partial or complete nail removal under local anesthesia.
