Does shoulder periarthritis cause numbness in the fingers?
Disease description:
A few days ago, my father complained of soreness and pain in his shoulder. After doing climbing exercises every day, it got better. Now he's experiencing muscle aches in his arm along with numbness in his hand. I'd like to ask whether shoulder periarthritis (frozen shoulder) can cause numbness in the fingers?
Generally not. The cause of this condition involves the soft tissues of the shoulder, particularly the rotator cuff structures, mainly referring to pathological changes in the joint capsule, deltoid muscle, and other muscles. When these soft tissues experience significant spasm, they severely impair shoulder joint function, especially markedly restricting abduction. If the issue is finger numbness, it's important to determine whether the nerve compression occurs at the wrist (such as carpal tunnel syndrome), at the elbow (such as cubital tunnel syndrome), or whether it stems from cervical spine disease causing the finger numbness.
