The condition can generally be treated by reducing physical labor and getting more rest. If the symptoms do not improve over time, medical treatment at a hospital is necessary to prevent worsening of the condition. Appropriate immobilization and rest should be maintained, avoiding continued bending and heavy lifting, which may exacerbate symptoms of spinal canal stenosis. In particular, activities that irritate the spinal cord and nerve roots, such as prolonged sitting and lifting heavy objects, should be avoided. If there are signs of compression, patients may take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or pain relievers to help reduce pain.
