Can patients with glaucoma take sour jujube seed (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen)?
Disease description:
My brother has had glaucoma for several months. Recently, my uncle brought back some sour jujube seeds (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen). My brother saw them and really craved them. May I ask if it's safe for someone with glaucoma to take sour jujube seeds?
Glaucoma patients can generally take sour jujube seeds (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen). Consuming sour jujube seeds may enhance immune function, so such patients may include them in their diet. However, they should avoid excessively greasy, spicy, or irritating foods, and should not eat food considered to trigger illness ("fa wu"). Smoking, alcohol consumption, carbonated beverages, and coffee are also prohibited. These substances may easily trigger glaucoma attacks and could worsen the condition.
