Dr. Lin Yunfei
Some cases of shoulder periarthritis can resolve spontaneously, while others require intervention and treatment to improve. Shoulder periarthritis is typically characterized by pain and joint stiffness, also known as frozen shoulder. Most patients achieve full recovery within 1 to 2 years. The condition can be divided into three stages: the first stage is the painful phase, the second stage is the stiffening phase, and the third stage is the recovery phase of joint function. More than half of patients regain normal function after more than a year, although some may continue to have limited range of motion. If movement limitation is significant, arthroscopic surgery can be performed to release the joint and restore normal function.
