Difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
Disease description:
I am relatively obese and usually lack physical activity. I was diagnosed with diabetes the other day. I've heard that diabetes can be divided into type 1 and type 2. What are the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes?
The main differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes are reflected in patients' pancreatic islet function and clinical presentations. If a patient's islet function has completely failed, it is classified as type 1 diabetes; if the patient retains partial islet function or exhibits insulin resistance, it is classified as type 2 diabetes. The primary symptoms of type 1 diabetes are the "three more and one less" symptoms—polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, and weight loss. Type 2 diabetes typically does not present with these "three more and one less" symptoms and is often associated with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and obesity.
